Activities in Puerto Ayora

Puerto Ayora has around 15,000 inhabitants, and is one of the largest villages on the Galápagos Islands. It received worldwide recognition through the extended stay of the famous naturalist Charles Darwin, who developed his theory of evolution on the Galapagos Islands. At the research station, which is just a 5 minute walk away from the Hotel Silberstein, you can visit the Interpretation Centre and the giant tortoise breeding station.

Puerto Ayora is a small recreational paradise that offers almost every comfort of the mainland. You can find public institutions such as banks, a post office, police station and a hospital, several churches, information centers and restaurants. Almost everything that your heart desires can be found in the town! Of course there is also a lively nightlife for tourists and residents of the village.

There are many things to do while in town. You can kayak around the Bay, mountain bike in the highlands, hike through the lava tunnels, and we can help you organize any activity which interests you.

Puerto Ayora also has a small harbor, where day trips to Floreana, Isabella and Santa Fe start. On the main port, you can find cargo boats and cruise ships that are docked while in transit.
